DIEGO VELASQUEZ

Diego Velazquez was born in Pereira, Colombia. He is one of 6 siblings. Ever since he was a young adult, he was used to multi-tasking. He taught swimming classes while pursuing a degree as an electrician.
However, his ambition for a more promising future made him change the course of his plans. He moved to the North in search of the American Dream.

Once in the US, Diego settled in New Jersey where he pursued a career on Marine Biology. On 1996, Diego moved from New Jersey to Atlanta. Starting in the new city, Diego got a job at a restaurant chain; before becoming a district manager for this one, he worked as a busboy, dishwasher, server and bartender learning the ins and outs of the restaurant business.

After 13 years of hard work and dedication, he felt ready to start his independent business venture. In 2010, Diego opened his first location and named it Tacos and Tequilas Mexican Grill. Today, this restaurant chain has 4 locations across Georgia. However, Diego’s vision is to expand it out of state within the next decade.

It is imperative to state that Diego Velazquez is not only a prolific businessperson, but he is also the head of a beautiful and successful family. His wife, Beatriz Velazquez, and his 2 daughters, Victoria and Miranda, are the pillars of his success. Diego’s family values are extended from his family to his professional team. He understands the importance of having a balanced lifestyle. He works hard, but he also “plays” hard. Sports such as tennis and golf are his idea of a good time. He is happy, but never content so he spends his time reading, learning, teaching and sharing his knowledge with all the people that surround him. We all have learned something from Diego.
.
Furthermore, Diego Velazquez takes social responsibility and community service very seriously. His contributions to society are reflected on his work with organizations such as: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Children’s healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA,) March of dimes, Red Cross, Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation and other local charities including the first responders and many public schools throughout the state.

Diego’s efforts have been rewarded with several mentions that include:

• Winner of the Forsyth County Best Tex-Mex Restaurant award on 2017, 2018 and 2019.
• Nomination by Georgia Rest Association on the Customer Service Excellence category in Buckhead , 2017.

• Winner of the Gwinnett County Best Mexican Restaurant award on 2019.
• Winner of Best of Midtown Casual Dining award on 2018.

People that gotten to know and learned from Diego will tell you that the word problem does not fit on his vocabulary. He prefers to think of challenges as something “muy facil” (very easy.) Men, women and children around him are always encouraged to feel as he does. “There isn’t issues, only solutions.”
